Employ Milwaukee's Camp RISE is more than just a summer camp—it's a gateway to opportunity for youth in underserved communities. Designed for participants ages 10 to 13, Camp RISE focuses on early career exploration, essential life skills, and civic engagement, laying a strong foundation for future success.
Since its inception, Camp RISE has provided hundreds of Milwaukee youth with first-hand experiences that connect classroom learning with real-world applications. Through engaging field trips, interactive workshops, and exposure to various career paths, campers discover possibilities in industries like healthcare, technology, trades, and public safety. In 2024 alone, the program served 281 youth, awarding over $94,000 in stipends. Notably, 31 participants transitioned to Employ Milwaukee’s Earn & Learn program, taking their first steps toward long-term workforce engagement.
The program emphasizes financial literacy, with participants earning stipends that help them grasp the importance of budgeting, saving, and responsible spending. Leadership development activities, such as mock interviews, team-building exercises, and problem-solving challenges, equip campers with critical interpersonal skills.
Camp RISE also prioritizes civic awareness. Through visits to City Hall and community clean-ups, participants gain a deeper understanding of local governance and the importance of active citizenship. In post-program surveys, 83% of youth reported learning new aspects of government, while 88% of parents observed improved social skills.
One standout success story is that of Robert Ramos, who balanced family responsibilities with camp participation. His dedication and leadership left a lasting impression, illustrating the program’s power to inspire.
With strong community support and nearly 97% of guardians planning to re-enroll their children, Camp RISE stands as a model for early workforce development. By fostering curiosity, confidence, and competence, Employ Milwaukee is helping shape the next generation of leaders—one camper at a time.
