2024 Excellence in Workforce Development awards ceremony

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Mayor JacobFrey joined the Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB) and Minneapolis Employment and Training (MET) to honor two standout organizations, Avivo and CAPI USA, for theirsignificant contributions to workforce development in Minneapolis last year. Tohonor their innovation and commitment to workers, both organizations wererecognized with mayoral proclamations at an award ceremony in City Hall.

Avivo received the “Excellencein Workforce Development – Employer Partnerships” award for itscollaboration with Wildflyer Coffee. Wildflyer specializes in serving homeless youth. Asan employer site, Wildflyer helps youth learn solid employment skills as theylearn to become coffee baristas. Avivo supports this process by providingwages, career counseling and access to a variety of wraparound supportservices.

CAPI USA received the “Excellencein Workforce Development – Service Delivery” award for itsholistic economic empowerment initiatives. CAPI has developed a financialopportunity center model that goes beyond basic workforce service to addressbarriers and to help promote economic self-sufficiency among immigrants andrefugees.

Funding for these programs is made possibleby the City of Minneapolis and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Actthrough our partnership with MN DEED. MET is proud to partner withcommunity-based organizations as they support the job training and economicadvancement of our residents.
